Christopher Nelson, insieme ai due italiani Alessandro Bertolazzi e Giorgio Gregorini, sono stati premiati per il Miglior trucco e acconciatura di Suicide Squad mentre Fuocoammare di Gianfranco Rosi, candidato come Miglior documentario, è rimasto a bocca asciutta.

Doppietta per il giovane musicista Justin Hurwitz, vincitore di due Oscar, per la Miglor Colonna Sonora a La La Land e per la Miglior Canzone, City of Stars, sempre per il film diretto da Damien Chazelle.

Il premio per il Miglior Attore Protagonista lo ha vinto Casey Affleck per Manchester by the Sea, mentre Emma Stone ha vinto come Migliore Attrice per La La Land.

L’Oscar al Miglior Regista è andato a Damien Chazelle, per La La Land, mentre il premio al Miglior Film è andato a Moonlight di Barry Jenkins con un colpo di scena finale che ha visto prima annunciare La La Land come vincitore della categoria, e poi Warren Beatty, assegnatario del premio, ritrattare ad annuncio già concluso e con la produzione di La La Land che era ormai sul palco a festeggiare la vittoria. “La busta era quella sbagliata” dirà Warren Beatty, per cercare di giustificare lo sgradevole disguido sorto alla fine della cerimonia, ma non deve essere stato facile per la squadra di La La Land scendere da palco dell’Academy un attimo dopo esserci salita da vincitrice.
